The Sontaran theme, the Shockeye chase theme, the bit when Stike gives orders to Varl at the beginning of part 3, superb. The tone of the story is quite sick, but Dr Who was scary at this point, for the first time since 1977. This is the best Nathan-Turner season by miles. Baker is consistently a better Doctor than Davison for me because he pushes the envelope in every scene and line. I laughed several times in this story. I can't quite accept the Jamie growling idea. The charred wall was still smoking, yet Jamie had been there for how long?? Nice for effect though. I have no problem with any of the deaths, though Oscar dying was somewhat dismissed by everyone, especially Jamie. Sometimes DW is crap but we excuse it. There is too much to like. It just beats Rani for me, 2nd in the season so far. 6 parts allows for better character development, Holmes didn't like them but imparted the advice to Graham Williams to write as a 2 plus 4 parter, you can see that here too. Shockeye gropes Peri at the beginning of part 3. Peri looks amazing. John Stratton is the Sid James of food. A brilliant performance. Jacqueline Pearce is Servalan but who cares. The Sontarans look crap and again are humiliated a bit, similar to Attack of the Cybermen. We need the monsters to be difficult to beat not finding random easy ways of killing them, who said ephemerals die so easily. <br />Troughton being back in colour is a treat.Linx D Oderanthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06587578831858117637noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5386390949828958591.post-72678296730085285462017-04-29T21:03:37.193-07:002017-04-29T21:03:37.193-07:00One of the great things about Season 22 is the var...One of the great things about Season 22 is the variety of stories it features. This, Attack of the Cybermen, and Vengeance on Varos are all great stories, and they're so very different from one another.
