Things don't go entirely mad often enough for a franchise with as fantastic (in the traditional sense of the word) premise as Doctor Who. I also enjoyed the other three, though that last one did, as you say, started to sound more like an advert or a self-congratulatory celebration than it did a proper story. I worried for a moment there, when Evelyn asked if "the audience" could hep save the Doctor, that it might be headed for pantomime territory.David Pirtlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00636601389899125100noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5386390949828958591.post-85630064543993975532019-02-12T13:54:08.122-08:002019-02-12T13:54:08.122-08:00I also normally love Rob Shearman's work but M...I also normally love Rob Shearman's work but My Own Private Wolfgang fell very flat I just can't really put my finger on why?Guyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06947926717792019335noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5386390949828958591.post-82713355495180493602016-02-09T17:21:45.634-08:002016-02-09T17:21:45.634-08:00Glad it wasn't just me thinking 100 BC had Eve...Glad it wasn't just me thinking 100 BC had Evelyn wildly out of character. Hopefully given time and reflection, I'll mellow to it like you did, but on first listen I found it super frustrating. As one of my favourite audio companions, to have Evelyn suddenly be militantly feminist came on as quite an unpleasant surprise. I missed a few in the middle, but none of what I'd seen of her so far supported whatever that episode was about. To erase a baby boy from existence because he's not a girl is not feminism... it's awful. I had the same reaction to the Shakespeare/Kingmaker twist. I really don't like the suggestion that the Doctor has mucked about with our greatest artist to such an extent. I'm not for one moment suggesting that the writers shouldn't be able to do such stories. Simply that for some reason it bothers me greatly when they do.

Paul's story was the best of the collection in my view. A lovely celebration and validation of six coming from one of his harshest critics.Ben Willanshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05374408148863732162noreply@blogger.com
